At Saint Peter Claver Catholic school, PK3-1st grades learn the fundamentals of pitch and rhythm through aural and kinesthetic practice. In 2nd-8th grades, students are taught basic note reading and contrapuntal singing as part of a preparatory choir program.
All students are taught to analyze and appreciate a varied repertoire of music. Students also engage their musical studies to make inter-disciplinary connections with subjects including art, history, math, and social studies. Students are given regular opportunities to lead singing in Mass and other prayer services, as well as participate in the annual Christmas concert, spring Fine Arts Night, and the Barnes and Noble book fair, where they "let their light shine".
Graduates of Saint Peter Claver Catholic school's middle school are adequately prepared to sing in choir is at the high school level.
